Spike

Spike in PA

Spike is a very independent puppy, he can be quite content in entertaining himself.  He is an extremely fast learner.  He is very dog oriented and gets a lot of his social boldness from the older dogs in his foster home.  He is wonderful with other dogs.  Fearless and friendly with every strange dog.  He will need a lot of one on one human time to mitigate too much doggienss and to help with more human bonding.   He is working on building his confidence  and is still a bit hand shy of strangers, so his new owner will need to continue this work and commitment to his socialization.

Spike is good with cats and he can be quite playful.  He has good bounceback.  When he gets hurt or frightened, he will come right back to whatever it was and will check it out.
Spike is very vocal.  His new owners will have to be able to tolerate a dog that barks a lot.   He will do best with an experienced dog owner and would do especially well in a home with a confident older dog to model good social behavior.

OWNER REFERRAL NESR logo

Part of our mission is to assist owners of English Shepherds in finding new homes for their dogs when they can no longer take care of them. The following dogs are listed as a service to those who must give up their dogs and prefer not to surrender them to a shelter.

Since we have not seen or evaluated these dogs, we cannot make any representation or take responsibility for any dog's temperament or health. Prospective adopters should contact the owner of a dog directly.

Tess Tess

Tess in NY

Tess is a nearly 3 year old purebred English Shepherd living in Upstate New York.   Tess is a beautiful, active and athletic, Black & Tan female (spayed) weighing 46 lbs.  She is UTD on shots, housebroken and obedience trained.

Tess is looking for a new home because she does not get along with another resident female dog.  Although she has some herding skills, she also tends to chase the sheep (but she’s fine with the chickens!)

We think that Tess would make a terrific agility dog or perhaps would work better with larger livestock.  In any event, she would do best with some type of “job”.   A home with cats is not recommended.

Overall, Tess is a wonderful companion dog that enjoys being with people, going for walks, and riding in the car.

For more information on Tess, please contact Trish and Paul Jackson at (607)835-6844 or by e-mail at jacksonharris@frontiernet.net

Cedar in New York

We have a 4 ½ year old, black & white, spayed, female English Shepard named Cedar.  We adopted Cedar when she was approximately 1 ½ years old.  She is a beautiful, strong, medium size dog weighing approximately 65 pounds.  She is up to date on all shots and in good health.  Cedar lives with us in eastern NY, approximately 3 hours north of New York City.

Cedar is an energetic girl who loves to run, go for walks and hikes, chase squirrels and chase water squirting out from the hose.  She is also content to rest and nap between activities.  She is responsive with sit, stay, and down commands and pretty good with come.  We have had no problems with Cedar and children.  We have a 4 year old son. Cedar can be fearful of men she does not know. Cedar’s current play space includes an approximately 5 acre area that is on an electronic fence.  Cedar is taken on a walk in the woods on most days.  We have taken Cedar sheepherding 4 times and she has performed nicely.

We unfortunately need to find a new home for Cedar because she has intermittingly shown aggression to our other female dog that is also the same age and size.  We think she would be better off as a single dog (or possibly with a large male, but not with a cat) where she can get plenty of exercise.  We think she would do very well with more structured tasks such as herding or agility.

OTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS

The following dogs are with other Rescue Organizations and are possibly not English Shepherds but they are English Shepherdish enough to be listed here. All adoptions are handled by the fostering Rescue Group. Please contact them or visit their web sites for more info about these dogs and other fine dogs they have in rescue!

PetFinder is a website devoted to listing dogs from shelters and rescue groups around the country. You can search PetFinder by breed or region to find the right dog for your family.

There are often English Shepherds listed on the PetFinder pages although sometimes the breed identification seems a little iffy. However, here are some dogs currently on the PetFinder website who are either ES or ESy. NESR has no connections with any of these organizations and makes no promises regarding the dogs listed here from PetFinders. We offer this list in the interest of one stop shopping...

If you have any questions about finding what you're looking for on PetFinders email Lynn for help
