special comments:

This was a carefully planned and considered litter. Cally's PennHIP scores are quite respectable but her OFA rating was a disappointment. I feel strongly that structural soundness and "hip health" are important considerations in any breeding decision. At the same time Cally has all the qualities I most treasure in the English Shepherd breed and I had really hoped that she would be the foundation bitch for the Caledonia line of English Shepherds. (She could be a black and white reincarnation of Ladybug, the ES I had as a kid, the ES who is singlepawedly responsible for me being involved with the breed today.) Cally had an unplanned litter of pups two years ago whose preliminary hip xrays suggest they inherited their father's better hips while they most definitely inherited their mother's sassy confidence, intuitve intelligence, and loving devotion.
Toasty brings very nice hips plus his wonderful temperament to the breeding.
This will be Cally's last litter.

I expect these pups to be first and foremost "kid hounds" as Cally really seems to put that stamp on her pups. While I do not think these pups are likely to be champion level agility or flyball candidates they would make great starter dogs for kids who want to learn agility or participate in 4-H events. They would make good all 'round farm dogs for people looking for a dog to keep an eye on things and enforce the routines. Mostly I think they will grow up to be once-in-a-lifetime companions because of the incredible devotion and intelligence of both parents.
