Eve in IL
This beautiful girl is Eve, picked up as a stray and scheduled for euthanasia at a high-kill shelter in MO. She's thought to be about 2-3 years old and is a natural bobtail English Shepherd. Her transport team fell in love with her on the way to her foster home in IL. She is sweet!
According to her foster mother, Eve is "amazing" and "awesome." She has fit in beautifully with her foster family. She has a great time playing with the two resident dogs. She loves to chase squirrels with them, yet respects their spaces at dinner time. She even cleans her feet when she comes into the house!
Eve knows that her foster mother is "her" person and looks to her for reassurance and guidance. She wags her little bobtail continuously. She has good house manners for the exception of being a "counter-surfer." She will need an owner who is consistent and patient in correcting this small flaw. Eve is not destructive and can be trusted otherwise to be left in the house unsupervised. She has not had any accidents.
If you are interested in this lovely English Shepherd, please contact Leslie at foflady@sbcglobal.net with Eve's name in the subject line.
Foster in MO
Foster and his littermate were turned over to a shelter, after their owner got in trouble with the law. They were thought to be about 12 weeks old at Christmas. NESR discovered them shortly before they were to be euthanized. Foster is black with tan markings. He is a sweet puppy with the typical heart-melting, English Shepherd face. He will be a beautiful dog.
His foster mother has the following to say about him. He is a confident, playful puppy who loves to snuggle. He loves to play ball and tug. Since coming to his foster home, he has learned to walk on a leash, is crate-trained and is learning to sit. He is almost house-broken. He is observant and will give a warning bark if something is out of the ordinary.
He approaches new experiences with curiosity. He has been exposed to poultry, goats, and horses and shows interest in them but is not obsessed with them. He gets along with the three adult male dogs in his foster home and knows not to chase the cat. He knows what "leave it" means and usually plays with his own toys, although shoes and socks are a temptation. Foster will do well in a home with clear and consistent leadership and human interaction.
Please note, as with all NESR puppy adoptions, there will be a $200 spay/neuter deposit in addition to the suggested adoption donation of $200. You will receive the spay/neuter deposit refund with proof of alteration within a year.
For more information regarding Foster, please e-mail foflady@sbcglobal.net with Foster's name in the subject line.
Airen in NC
Airen is a 6 month old sweet, loving, smart, energetic, soon to be spayed puppy that is looking for a forever home that will be willing to spend time and effort building her confidence and introducing her to the broader world. She grew up on a farm and knew nothing when she came to us a month ago. Her foster mom has worked with her and now she is house-trained, chicken-broke (actually beginning to herd them with the other dogs), good with cats, plays well with household dogs, crate trained, comes when called, sits when asked, knows the difference between dog toys and household things, walks politely on a leash, calm in the house, likes car rides, enjoys fetching a tennis ball.
She has a very good temperament but it’s clear that as she matures she won't let anyone push her around too much! She probably needs to go to a home with a male dog or a very easy going female. She has been out-and-about 5+ days a week since the first week. She still has a long way to go to for socialization. She makes progress each time but she's starting a long way behind. Airen will get better with exposure but it will take time and effort. She will need a home that will promise to keep working on this!!! It will be VERY important to her happiness and that of her family.
If you would like more information about Airen, please contact Laree at wetolt@gmail.com please put NESR Airen in the subject line.
Mister Bear in VA
This handsome boy came into rescue underweight, shy and very sick but after being nursed back to health by his foster family is ready for his forever home. Bear is approximately 4 yrs old and now weighs a healthy 60 lbs. Since coming out of his shell and discovering the world is a safe place his foster mom says “His joie de vivre is often expressed puppy-style, and a full-charge body slam is always a possibility for the naïve and uninitiated so he would do best with someone who could deal with and modify this expression of pure delight.”
Mister Bear needs to be back on a farm where he has lots of room and will have chores and jobs to keep him happy and busy. This young man needs an experienced owner to work with him and is not an appropriate dog for city life or the first time ES owner.
Mister Bear is cat friendly and meets people and unfamiliar dogs with the expectation that they will like him. Bear has shown a willingness to herd by guiding his goats and geese back to their pens when they get out.
If you need an all around partner on your farm and would like more information on Mister Bear contact Michael at sage_moon_naturals@yahoo.com please put Bear in the subject line.
Annabelle and her pup in OH
Annabelle and her six puppies were taken in by NESR after being surrendered by a hoarder in Ohio. All are black and tan in color.
Annabelle has shown herself to be a very good mother, however she is still shy around humans and will need some time to be socialized. She also has shown some prey drive, and may not do well in a home with cats. We will be looking for a patient home when the time comes for her to be adopted, who will be willing to help this shy dog reach her true potential. She is scheduled to be spayed soon, and then will be ready to start her new life.
Congratulations to puppies Rosie, True, Clover and Daisy who have found their forever homes! We wish them and their new families many happy days to come!
Tanner, the remaining pup has been weaned, and is now ready to start his new life! His foster mom reports the pups' individual personalities are becoming more apparent every day. Tanner is one of the more laid back and easygoing pups.
Please note, as with all NESR puppy adoptions, there will be a $200 spay/neuter deposit in addition to the suggested adoption donation of $200. You will receive the spay/neuter deposit refund with proof of alteration within a year.

Annie in MN
Annie is a sweet, year old, tri colored English Shepherd female. She grew up outside and on a farm but got herself into too much trouble. She was turned over to rescue in November.
She is currently in foster and is very submissive to her new environment. She shares a foster home with a female Newfoundland whom she wholeheartedly respects and two cats; one who bullies her and one who she has tried to chase…once. She is getting the hang of living in a house and even walks on the treadmill, for 20 minutes a day. Walking on the treadmill gives Annie the much needed opportunity to burn off some of her energy.
Annie is a medium-to-high energy level dog and is reactive to new things; at this time, she is a flight risk. Annie is incredibly intelligent and willing to learn – as her confidence is growing, she is beginning to ‘test’ the humans around her for consistency in leadership. She has had positive experiences with other dogs and will start additional socialization when she starts obedience class at the end January.
Annie’s requires a forever home that provides consistent leadership, is patient, structured and willing to give her positive experiences to continue to build her confidence in herself and her human. Annie is the preverbal ‘English Shadow’ and will excel in a home where she has access to be with her human through shared experiences and activities.
For questions about Annie, please email meconnol13@gmail.com with the subject line ‘NESR Annie’.
Charlie in MN
Charlie has recently underwent surgery. Stay tuned for updates.
Charlie is an Operation New Beginnings dog who was born shortly before the seizure.
Charlie is not suitable for a first-time handler. He will require a firm, but not heavy, hand and respect for his independence and initiative.
Charlie is an exceptionally bright dog. While his lack of early socialization means that he is surprised and startled by some things that other dogs take for granted, Charlie recovers from stress much more quickly than most dogs. He is agile and enjoys obstacles and he LOVES to fetch. Once Charlie has healed from surgery, he could be an excellent obedience or agility prospect. He would also enjoy tracking.
Unfortunately Charlie also had two badly luxated patellas. One was surgically repaired on January 18, 2010. The other knee was repaired recently and Charlie is recovering.
Charlie went into an experienced foster home because of dog and human aggression that started when he very young. His dog aggression resolved almost immediately in his foster home, though he would not be a good housemate for a very small, fearful dog. Charlie is gentle, affectionate and easy for his foster family to handle, but is still aloof with strangers. His new owner will need to give him time to bond; and maintain him a calm and controlled atmosphere when he meets strangers until he acclimates to his new home. He will be an excellent partner for an experienced handler – this dog needs a job and he could excel at many things.
Charlie has not met cats but he is good with poultry. If he is still with us when his knee heals, we plan to start him on sheep. He appears to have eye.
Charlie is very small, around 25 pounds. He has a silky, low-maintenance coat.

Owner Referral
Part of our mission is to assist owners of English Shepherds in finding new homes for their dogs when they can no longer take care of them. The following dogs are listed as a service to those who must give up their dogs and prefer not to surrender them to a shelter.
Since we have not seen or evaluated these dogs, we cannot make any representation or take responsibility for any dog's temperament or health. Prospective adopters should contact the owner of a dog directly.
Sheba & Charlie in New York
Sheba is an 11 year old Black and Tan English Shepherd who needs a new home, as her owner can no longer care for her. She is a lovely older gal who would like to be adopted with her best friend Charlie, a 9 year
old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Sheba, who is a bit overweight but otherwise in good health, enjoys walks and would benefit from some regular exercise. She can be a bit timid at first when she meets someone new, but warms up and quickly becomes the classic English Shadow with her people. She is good with cats and kids.
Charlie is active for his age. He weighs about 12 lbs. and is also good with cats and kids.
Please consider opening your heart and home to these two special dogs.
Contact Mary at 518-239-6051 for more information.

Other Rescue Organizations
The following dogs are with other Rescue Organizations and are possibly not English Shepherds but they are English Shepherdish enough to be listed here. All adoptions are handled by the fostering Rescue Group. Please contact them or visit their web sites for more info about these dogs and other fine dogs they have in rescue!
PetFinder is a website devoted to listing dogs from shelters and rescue groups around the country. You can search PetFinder by breed or region to find the right dog for your family.
There are often English Shepherds listed on the PetFinder pages although sometimes the breed identification seems a little iffy. However, here are some dogs currently on the PetFinder website who are either ES or ESy. NESR has no connections with any of these organizations and makes no promises regarding the dogs listed here from PetFinders. We offer this list in the interest of one stop shopping...
If you have any questions about finding what you're looking for on PetFinders email Lynn for help.

Maddie in WY
Maddie is a two year old spayed female English Shepherd. She gets along well with everyone, other dogs, kids and cats. VERY sweet. Her previous owner surrendered her and said they didn't have time for her. She is a healthy girl and ready for a forever home. Most importantly she is awesome with children!!
Amazing would be a better word. She is house trained. Knows sit, down, stay, wait and shake. Maddie gets along great with our six dogs. She is not a barker, does not get on furniture and is not food aggressive at all. Maddie needs to be with her family! If left alone for an extended time she will get into mischief. She is crate trained. Oh ya, did I mention, she is a absolute sweetheart!
To adopt Maddie please go to www.wyaussierescue.com and click on "adoption procedures".
Beeline in OH
This is Beeline. He is a neutered male picked up in mid November as a stray in the Grove City area of Ohio, and taken to the dog shelter of Franklin County.
He looks to be an English Shepherd, and the vet thinks he is about 9 years old. Beeline is very healthy and active, but quiet in the house, and is housebroken. He gets along very well with other dogs, cats (has even been caught sharing a nap with one now and then) and children. He is wary of men and strangers in general, but becomes closely devoted to his own family. He loves to ride in the car or pickup. He is quiet around our horses, not either afraid or excited, but following us around when we ride and coming over to sniff us when we dismount. I don't have a fence but he stays right with me when I do my barn chores and outside work. He is good on a leash as well, and gets his business done right away if you have only a few minutes to walk him. I can't say enough good about this perfect gentleman of a dog.
If you are interested in adopting Beeline please check out his listing at: http://tristatecollierescue.net/collies.htm and fill out an adoption application.
Toby in MD
Toby has come a long way in the few months we have had him here. He is much better socialised, though will alarm bark and does need a confidant handler.
Toby is sweet and affectionate, is smart and learns quickly, does will with other dogs and cats. He will do best in a home were confident leadership is the norm, and the other dogs in the home are calm and quiet.
Toby is crate trained and housebroken. He is responding to some commands, though needs work on leash walking (we practice daily!) *** Toby is one undersocialised little guy. Adopted from a 'rescue' where he and his sibling were stored in a closet, Toby's adoptive family soon realised that Toby was more than they could handle and brought him to us.
In the 3 weeks we have had Toby, he has gone from terrified to my best friend and has greeted strangers appropriatly. While he could be adopted now, he would need to go to someone who understood that Toby need to continue to learn about the world in a positive and non-threatening way.
Toby will do best in a quiet, confident home where training and socialisation is important. He will need continued training and socialisation to become the great dog he is destined to be.
While Toby was raised with children he adored, we feel it best that he not go to a home with young children as acclimisation would be difficult and those young children have friends making it doubly difficult.
Toby is crate trained and house broken, walks well on leash, is great with other dogs and cats.
Please contact Mid-Atlantic (Kent County) Border Collie Rescue for more information about Toby: slr@mabcr.org
Shep in MO
Shep is probably an ES mix, around 5 years of age. He was found in a rural area, possibly he was a farm dog or perhaps his owner died. He's friendly with adults and children, and loves being petted. He enjoys walks and would be much happier in a real home. He knows how to sit when told and will walk on a leash.
Shep has been treated for heartworm and recently neutered. His only difficult trait is that he does not like other male dogs, so he needs a home that does not have other dogs or can work with him to resolve that behavior.
If you are interested in adopting Shep, contact Tricia Krause at the Tri Lakes Humane Society in Reeds Spring, MO. (417) 272-8113.

Charlie in MA
Charlie is a young 1 year old, 55 pound, ESy mix. We are not sure what the mix is, perhaps retriever. Isn't he just so gorgeous? He is a very confident and happy dog, the kind of dog who is a pleasure to have romping around the house.
Charlie comes with a sad past, we found him in a kill shelter in Miami and apparently he had been shot 4 times last month. Quite a few very dedicated people with giant hearts pulled together for Charlie, to make his recovery and trip to New England possible. Charlie is greatly loved by everyone who has met him, now we all just want to see him happy in a home who can continue loving him. :)
He walks well on a leash, greets both people and dogs in a friendly fashion. He loves to sit while you pet him, he just loves the attention! He goes to the bathroom outside, and so far has proven to be a very intelligent dog that picks things up quickly.
Charlie needs a good leader who will love him for who he is and help bring out the best in him. Because he is an early foster, we haven't seen too many bad habits arrive yet. He's a happy, bright, confident dog who is ready to go home!!
You can also see a video of Charlie at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pa3bsRyjJI
If interested in adopting Charlie, please contact dearevolution@gmail.com . Charlie is currently being fostered in Bedford, Massachusetts..
